Malignant, directed by James Wan, tells the story of Madison (Annabelle Wallis), seeing gruesome murders in first-person during events of paralysis.
I liked it a lot.
The movie was spoiled for me in an Instagram post. It was only a practical effect but was enough to figure the whole film out before watching it. However, I enjoyed it as much as any other (not-spoiled) movie.
It’s not what I would call scary, but it’s gruesome and full of disturbing visuals. That puts the effects in the first plan for me, definitely one of the highlights.
The story is quite creative. I don’t recall something so original in quite some time.
I really admire James Wan’s horror work because even when the story doesn’t captivate me, the quality of his filmmaking always does. The camera work, the transitions, the eerie appearance, and so on.
That’s why I recommend Malignant. It’s not a perfect movie, but it’s entertaining and has a compelling story and James Wan’s high-quality filmmaking.
