Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson and directed by Rupert Sanders, is a crime and action movie released in 2017.
After being saved from an accident and becoming a first-of-a-kind cyborg, Major Mira Killian enters an antiterrorist unit. However, she still experiences flashbacks from her past life, and with her new case, they’re more intense than ever.
This live-action version of the 1995 Japanese animation has a very similar plot, but with some changes that I didn’t like so much. The most compelling reflections evoked by the original were lost in these changes.
Some characters lost their personality, including the leading Major, while others were diluted to near nonexistence.
However, the world-building and the action are still top-notch, making it a very entertaining movie.
The inevitable comparison to the original is what gives the impression of a worse movie than it actually is.
If you still didn’t watch it, I think you should give it a try.
