Today let’s talk about the 2021 Polish movie “Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2”, directed by Bartosz M. Kowalski.
Right after the events of the previous movie, our new protagonist, the police officer Adas (played by Mateusz Wieclawek), arrives at the station and finds the twin monsters (both played by Michal Zbroja) and Zosia (played by Julia Wieniawa-Narkiewicz) in jail.
Sergeant Waldek (played by Andrzej Grabowski) takes Zosia to the house where the twins lived to reconstruct her testimony. When both don’t return to the police station, the reluctant Adas and fellow officer Wanessa (played by Zofia Wichlacz), go for their rescue.
This video should have been made much earlier. However, this was a crazy week, so it couldn’t be done.
Also, I would review several polish movies in the sequence, but I saw a politician talk some ignorant misinformation about Africa. So I thought it was time to bring back the African movies to the channel. So, stay tuned!
Now, without further ado…
Nobody Sleeps in the Woods tonight 2 compared to the first, I think the second installment was weaker. It is still somewhat of a slasher full of gore, full of gruesome deaths, but it’s no longer a horror movie, it’s a complete comedy.
And as I said in the previous video, I like comedy, I like when a movie uses Good Humor, but I think the director went too far with this one. It’s too distant from the first one.
As a comedy movie did well, I laughed a lot for most of it. It just didn’t work as a sequence of a slasher horror.
I also didn’t like the route they took with Zosia. To me, it felt like everything she went through during the first film was for nothing. It also makes no effing sense that she’s in jail. Why would she be in jail?!
If you had her as a victim and witness, nothing fundamentally changes in the plot of the second film, and it would make much more sense. I think I would overlook this detail if everything else was more well-rounded, but it was not!
Anyway…
The plot is very simple, very straightforward, and it follows the same logic for the first two acts. That is: Adas and Wanessa go after Waldemar and Zosia, see a not-so-good situation, and have to find allies to fight the threat.
Then there’s a little twist I won’t talk about, of course, but it still keeps a simple premise. It was somewhat of a nice twist because I was not expecting it at all. It’s nice to be surprised by some plot twist now and then. And at least it was not the type of “it was all a dream” plot twist. I hate that s*, it’s overused. Just stop doing it.
By the way, now I will avoid cursing, and I will beep the eventual curse. Better to have family-friendly content, so YouTube doesn’t f* my s* up. Thanks for the comprehension.
Now, let’s get back to work.
I already talked about the humor regarding the clashing tones of the two movies. But, talking only about the comedy as this one particular movie, the movie is hilarious! It was not the type of movie that had to pause to laugh, but it was very funny regardless.
And that makes it entertaining enough individually without considering the first installment. Always keeping in mind: The main goal of a movie is to entertain us. And the main goal of a comedy movie is to entertain us through humor and make us laugh, and this movie did both.
So, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have some fun. If you don’t, go watch something else. Maybe go jerk off to some Lars von Trier movie or some other pretentious BS. I hope jerk-off is not cursing because I won’t beep it.
So, now we have some new characters, first of all, Adas. I like the guy, he’s kind of a coward just like Julek in the first movie. But at least he’s a charismatic coward, he’s not an annoying coward. Sometimes we see cowards in movies, they are so *much* annoying, that’s not the case. He is nice, and he defends dogs. I like motherf*s who defend dogs.
I think he is a well-made character, and his arc was somewhat complete by the end of the second act. Ready for the plot twist.
He’s the type of needy, lonely guy who falls in love with every pretty girl he sees. We all know the type.
So, the movie opens with his dream sequence of Adas saving Wanessa from vampires. In the dream, he is a badass American police officer. By the way, I was surprised he was not shooting some black kid in the back since he was an American police officer in the dream.
Anyway, he wakes up and takes to the police station some orange juices and offers it to Wanessa. She says she doesn’t like orange juice. Who in the world doesn’t like orange juice? I don’t know anyone, if you know someone, please let me know.
But the orange juice is not even the point, the point is: how could add us fall in love with that person?
Judging only from the appearance, of course! She is disgustingly beautiful! But, having to work together with this person every day and still, fall in love and fantasize with her?!
Wanessa is like that throughout the whole movie. She’s unbearable. Just an unbearable person. And I think it was a great choice because he contrasts a lot with Adas. And we have, for the most part of the movie, the two of them working together, and this clash inside the group was compelling for the development of the story.
The acting was really nice as well. However, Mateusz I didn’t know previously, and he made a very believable wimp. I like him.
Zofia, I know from at least two other works, I don’t know exactly. This is by far the most over-the-top performance I have seen from her and I think she did quite well, to be honest.
And Julia is something else, I really love this actress. I think she did a phenomenal job once again.
The cinematography is inferior to the previous one. We don’t have the same level of compelling camerawork, and we definitely don’t have the beauty of the first one.
Most of the movie is set during the night, however, it’s too light. It’s not a believable nightly darkness.
The colors didn’t please me as well. Everything is in a bluish color, there’s not enough variation.
In general, the cinematography was inferior to the previous one, subpar, and, at best, mediocre.
The score is basically the same. So you can watch the first video to hear what I thought about the score. But I might as well say that I really like it.
Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2 is entertaining, funny but it lacks consistency and a bond with the first movie. Not much has improved compared to the first one, but some things have definitely gone worse. So, I’ll give nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2 5 Moons!
